Our Mission is to Train and Develop in a Holistic Manner, the minds of our Draughts Players, So that they can be able to attain the highest possible standard.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DRAUGHTS ASSOCIATION

Draughts has been in existence in Trinidad and Tobago for a number of years. Although, it is difficult to say the exact year and the colonial power that introduced the game to our citizens, one thing is sure and that is; the game is well known and is very popular amongst our people in all parts of the island.

Despite the fact that competitions were held in an organized manner, it was not until 1992 that the present Association became the legally accepted body by The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs to conduct the business of draughts in Trinidad and Tobago. In that same year the Association also became affiliated to The Pan American Federation and The World Governing body better known as The FMJD.

Our Association has a very proud history during our eighteen years of existence. We hosted two (2) Pan American Junior Tournaments in 2000 and 2006. In 2004 The Pan American Youth Tournament was won by Devendra Dindial, a player from Trinidad and Tobago. The Association has been sending players to represent Trinidad and Tobago at all the senior Pan American Tournaments.

The growth of the Association continues to expand quite significantly. At present there are twelve (12) draughts clubs affiliated with our organisation, and the membership of these clubs continues to soar yearly.

Our Association also engages in the tutoring of school children both in primary and secondary schools, by means of the School Coaching Programme that is been funded by the government. This ensures that our mission in promoting and developing the game of draughts amongst our citizens is being achieved on a daily basis.

Our Association has also been selected to host the 7th Pan American Youth Draughts Tournament in July of this year 2010.
